6 free ways to win new customers

Customers-without them you simply do not have a business, but how do you keep a steady flow of new customers coming through?

Whilst marketing is essential, there are many free and easy ways to acquire new customers.

Participate in networking events relevant to your industry and customers. But rather than thinking of “What’s in it for me”, approach with the attitude of “How can I help others”. This will help you build relationships that lead to new customers.

Referrals (word of mouth) are one of the best ways to get new customers. However, you cannot just sit back and wait for your current customers to refer their contacts to you, you could be in for a long wait if you do. Try implementing a system for getting referrals from your satisfied customers. For example, send a follow-up email asking for a referral after a customer has received their order or service from you. In the B2C marketplace, offering the referrer a discount or voucher for each referral works well. For a B2B company, rewards usually work best as a certain discount off the following month’s service or order. Some companies also offer a lunch or bottle of wine to clients who have referred new customers.

3-Discounts and Incentives

Discounts, incentives, and introductory offers can encourage customers through your door by offering a low-risk way to try your products or services. Track which customers redeem the special offer, then target them with marketing messages encouraging and enticing them to keep buying from you.

4-Re-contact old customers

Reach out to anyone who hasn’t done business with you in a while with a ‘Hi we’ve missed you’ and special offer via email, direct mail or phone.

5-Partner with complementary businesses

Why not team up with businesses that aren’t directly competitive but have a similar customer base. Strategize how you can target each other’s customers to drive new business to each other. For example, a fitness club website and a gym wear website could pair up to offer discounts and deals to each other’s customers.

6-Promote your expertise

Holding online webinars or participating in industry panel discussions, speaking at industry events or to groups your target customers belong to will impress potential new customers with your subject expertise.
